Herpes simplex virus (HSV)-1 and 2, both cause the genital herpes disease. This disease is basically sexually transmitted in nature and is spread out through the contact of the mucous membrane of the skin of the genital areas.

- There may be appearance of bumps. These bumps may later heal and disappear with time.
- The patient may have decreased appetite and malaise.
- There may be muscle weakness and pain of the knees, thighs, etc.
- Blisters may appear in the genital regions of both the sexes.
- These blisters give the feeling of itching, burning and pain, etc.
- Ulcers are formed at the later stages and these ulcers are very painful in nature.
- The patient may suffer from extreme pain while urinating.

There is no known treatment of this disease. Though, drugs are administered to control the discomfort level of the symptoms and to quickly heal the ulcers. Famciclovir, acyclovir and valacyclovir are the drugs of choice. Try to avoid wearing synthetic or nylon underwears, instead wear something loose and made up of cotton. Regularly wash the sores with water and antiseptic lotion to avoid its spread out to other persons. You may take bath in warm water to get some relief from the pain.
